Product Review: Quechua Forclaz 200 3in1 Trekking Jacket

One jacket limitless solutions: Quechua Forclaz 200 3in1 Trekking Jacket

In the current frosty weather we are experiencing, it is important to ensure that the apparel we style during the daily commute or when out in the mountains is up to the job of keeping us warm and dry. A jacket is the signature piece within a winter wardrobe and it’s the piece that most people spend a lot of time choosing, weighing up the key benefits that each model on the market will give them in correlation to their usage type. If, like me, you do a lot of differing sports or find yourself in many different scenarios and don’t want to clutter your wardrobe with a jacket for each usage you will be happy to hear that there is a jacket out there that is versatile enough to be used in many differing situations. This jacket is the brand new Quechua Forclaz 200 3in1 Trekking jacket which we have been testing to its limits during the past few weeks to provide this in-depth review and thus to find out just how good this jacket really is.

What does the Forclaz 200 Offer?

The Forclaz 200 3in1 jacket is designed for the all round mountain adventurer who wishes to have one jacket that offers many solutions through a high amount of features and versatility. The jacket boasts a huge 5000mm 2 layer 100% taped seam water-proof membrane that will prevent even the worst of rain storms from making you wet and uncomfortable. Fitted internally into the jacket via a zipper system is an inner quilted jacket which contains 120g/sqm of high loft synthetic insulation to help keep you cosy and warm during any icy winter weather that you may encounter. The versatile aspect of this jacket lies in the fact that the inner quilted jacket can be worn on its own separately on chilly but dry days whilst the outer jacket can be worn on its own during wet but warm days in the summer months of the year. This gives the jacket a huge amount of versatility giving you a lightweight waterproof jacket for summer usage; a warm waterproof jacket for winter usage and a mid layer insulated jacket for days when it is cold but dry. All of this versatility can be found in this jacket for a truly give away price. Aside from its vast amount of versatility the Forclaz 200 3in1 also offers an incredible amount of functionality. A close fitting removable multi adjustable hood provides both a good fit and the option to be used with a helmet if climbing or skiing, two pockets are placed at the waist with one also on the arm and the chest as well as a secret pocket that is hidden behind the waterproof zipper flap. Available in 2 colors in both men’s and women’s models the Quechua Forclaz 200 3in1 is a high quality versatile and functional jacket that offers solutions for every different scenario you may encounter, so whether you are glacier trekking, skiing or just walking your dog in the park the Forclaz 200 will for sure offer the perfect jacket solution for you.

How did it perform?

So how did this jacket perform during testing? From first putting on the jacket you can feel the technicality that it contains, it has a close fit that hugs the body and feels very comfortable even when wearing layers underneath. During cold wet weather the jacket keeps you warm and dry effortlessly with water falling straight from the outer fabric and heat being effectively retained within the inner layer to keep you snug and very warm. One thing I really loved about this jacket was removing the inner layer on cold dry days when commuting to work as it keeps you warm but doesn’t have the over the top feel of wearing a big winter jacket. Removing the inner jacket also was very useful whilst hiking as when walking up steep hills and building up a sweat; it allowed me to effectively regulate my body temperature by just simply removing the insulation and wearing only the shell. The underarm zips that the jacket contains also provide the option for venting away excess heat that builds up when using the jacket during an intense activity. I found the hood to fit perfectly around the face and not slip down around my eyes which is a really annoying thing that a lot of jackets do. Overall whilst using the Forclaz 200 3in1 in the past few weeks I have been pleasantly surprised at not only the versatility it provides, but also the sheer amount of technicality it offers for such a good price. I have a very similar jacket made by a well known elite mountain sports brand that I paid triple the cost of this jacket for and I quite honestly cannot find even the slightest of difference between the two apart from the name printed onto the chest; because of this I have to give a huge amount of respect to Quechua for not making us pay an extortionate price for such a good quality jacket. I would recommend this jacket for anyone wishing to own a high quality jacket that will provide them with a solution for any conditions that the British weather has to offer.
